The first Meeting for Worship of what would become Argenta Monthly Meeting took place on 14 May, 1952. This consisted of the Pollard and Stevenson families, who had just arrived in Argenta, BC. They were soon joined by the Boyd and Rush families. These families left California because of the political climate of the McCarthy era.
The Meeting in Argenta was first recognized as a Monthly Meeting by Pacific Yearly Meeting. In the 1960s Argenta Monthly Meeting became a member of Canadian Yearly Meeting.
In 1959 the Argenta Friends School was established. It provided university preparation for grade 11 and 12 students from across North America. The students boarded with local families, engaged in Quaker decision making in Student-Staff meetings, and learned the practical skills of rural living. The school operated until 1982 with approximately 24 students each year. Friends that served as Principals were Jonathon Aldrich, John Stevenson, Betty Polster, Edith Gorman, Alaine Hawkins, and Donna Sassaman.
The Argenta Friends Press was another endeavor of the Meeting. It published the Canadian Quaker Pamphlet series, The Canadian Friend, and the Minutes of Canadian Yearly Meeting, as well as non-Quaker publications such as The Smallholder, a newsletter about rural living. The press operated from 1981 to 2011.
